How to Get a Vendor’s License to Set Up a Vending Machine

By Lanee' Blunt

Vending machines make a lot of money if it is in the right location. The licensing will depend on your state that you live in. A vending machine business does not require a lot of overhead and is a business to get in with minimum upfront investment.  There are different types of vending machines you can set up such as beverages, snacks, meals, candy, or cigarettes.

Requirements
Analyze the type of machine that you want to set up because if you are going to sell food you will be required to have Food Service license.  A sales tax license is required to collect sales taxes.  A vendor and peddler license is required to set up a vending machine for sales on most products in the machine. The requirements may be different, so you must check with your own local licensing department.

If you have more than one vending machine in more than one location you will need a licensed sticker for each machine. The most popular locations for the vendor machines are in stores, schools, and corporations. A small business is a good place to set up a vending machine, as well as hospitals and laundromats.
